Secular Franciscan Order

Minister Sheila Solomon, OFS

About Us

The St. Clare Secular Franciscan Fraternity is a community of Catholic men and women in Southwest Florida called by God to follow the example of our founder, St. Francis of Assisi. Secular Franciscans express the teachings of Jesus Christ by witness of our lives in prayer and in action, going from Gospel to life and from life to Gospel. We exhibit our charism through outreach to the poor and the marginalized and through joyful service in our parishes. We join clergy, religious, and other lay orders in praying daily the Liturgy of the Hours.

Hallmarks of our spirituality include:
- Simplicity expressed through poverty and humility
- Care for Creation
- Community
- Compassion
- Complete active abandonment to God expressed by Conversion, Transformation, and Peacemaking.

Adults over the age of 18 years seeking to become a Secular Franciscan complete a formation process that can last between 27 months to almost three years. All are welcome to join us at our Fraternity meetings on the first Sunday of the month in the Ave Maria Parish Hall.
